Newnham College is delighted to announce that Christopher Lawrence, currently Bursar of Wolfson College, will be joining us as Bursar of Newnham from April 2019.
We are particularly pleased to have gained such an experienced Bursar at this exciting time, as the College approaches its 150th anniversary in 2021.
Newnham College has just opened the doors of the major new Dorothy Garrod Building, and is home to the newly-founded Margaret Anstee Centre for Global Studies. Over the past years the generosity of alumnae has resulted in increasingly helpful support for many aspects of college life.
Christopher has been Bursar of Wolfson College since 2007, a post he took up after roles in orchestral management, including for the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Academy of Ancient Music. Christopher is himself a talented musician, and plays an active role in the University’s musical life. Former tuba player for well-known local ensemble Prime Brass, he now coaches and conducts Junior Prime Brass, an ensemble for 14-18 year olds.
The Principal, Dame Carol Black, thanked Donald Hearn for his work over the past year, describing him as a superb Interim Bursar. Donald and Christopher will carry out a staged handover over the coming months, allowing for a smooth transition.
