Newnhamite named ‘Female Undergraduate of the Year’ at awards ceremony

A Newnhamite has been named the ‘Female Undergraduate of the Year’ at an annual awards ceremony which aims to find the best students in the UK.

Land Economy student Aleksandra Pedraszewska’s prize is an internship in the UK and Europe with Rolls-Royce, an iPad and the chance to shadow a senior female manager.

The winners of the 2015 TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year competition were announced by journalist and newsreader Fiona Bruce at a glittering ceremony in London last week.

More than 3,500 students entered the competition and they came from degree backgrounds ranging from Natural Sciences to French and Italian and from universities from Cambridge to the OU.

Aleksandra, who is also President of the Cambridge University Polish Society, said: ““I am still shocked, but extremely happy. It means a lot to me that there are so many kind responses to the news from everyone in Cambridge and my friends back in Poland. And of course I am very much looking forward to my summer internship at Rolls-Royce, both in the UK and one of their international facilities.”

Professor Martin Dixon, Aleksandra’s Director of Studies, said: “Aleksandra is an absolute star: a credit to her family, her college and the Department of Land Economy.”

The other finalists in Aleksandra’s category were: Anisha Malde, Imperial College London Emma Bagshaw, University of Exeter Emma Yule, University of Edinburgh Kate Prescott, University of Cambridge Lois Wentworth, University of Nottingham Mary Louise Ryall Zuazo, University of Birmingham Melissa Grant, University of Oxford Michelle Bolten, University of Edinburgh Stephanie Baines, University of Manchester.
