St Catharine’s College has named one of its two new student houses in hour of Dr Marian Silver (Scrase, NC 1945). Marian, among the first cohort at Newnham to be awarded a Cambridge degree in 1948, was also the first woman to be elected to the Fellowship at St Catharine’s.
The distinguished scientist spent 30 years as the Assistant Director of Research at the University’s Physiological Laboratory, and is best known for her advances in fetal and neonatal physiology. She died in 1994. St Catharine’s has also updated its biography on Marian. Silver House is at the St Chad’s site on Grange Road in Cambridge.
