Fanny: The Other Mendelssohn, BAFTA award-winning filmmaker Sheila Hayman (NC 1974)’s new feature documentary starring global Decca star, Isata Kanneh-Mason, recently launched at cinemas across the UK. The photo above is a still from the film’s shoot at Buckingham Palace with an all women crew. An early version of the film was commissioned for Newnham’s 150th celebrations.
‘I’ve always wanted to make a film about my amazing forebear Fanny Mendelssohn, whose story of creativity, wit, resourcefulness and perseverance against enormous odds inspires comparison with the spirit of Newnham.
